What Is Model NASS

A room where you have to think.

Model NASS is a civic simulation programme. Participants are assigned identities as delegates to the Model National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Mona — a fictional country close enough to Nigeria that the policy questions feel real, and distant enough that you can engage without the weight of your own political allegiances.

You'll be given a character, a position, and a problem. You'll have to argue it seriously — even if it's not what you'd normally say. That's the point. Deliberation, not performance. Complexity, not answers.

The Gender Equity in Leadership Act has arrived on the floor.

The bill proposes mandatory gender equity targets across every sector of Monan society — from government ministries and state agencies to private companies with government contracts, and including religious organisations. Proponents call it a historic correction. Critics call it overreach.

For the first time, the chamber must answer a question that has divided Mona for a generation: Who decides who leads?

The Reformers

Decades of documented exclusion demand a structural response. Voluntary targets have failed. The time for legislation is now.

The Traditionalists

Forcing equity by quota undermines merit and violates the autonomy of faith communities and private institutions alike.

The Pragmatists

The bill's ambition is right but its reach is too broad. What amendments could make it pass — and what would that cost?

The Setting

The Federal Republic of Mona

Mona is a fictional nation created specifically for the Model NASS simulation. It gives delegates a neutral but realistic arena to grapple with real tensions — without the noise of real-world political allegiances.

Model NASS was established under Mona's Civic Inclusion and Participatory Governance Reform Act, five years after a nationwide youth movement demanded a seat at the table. It is a formal youth legislative body with the power to submit advisory resolutions directly to the President and National Assembly.
